Tension problems with the Singer Simple?

Question by Jane: Tension problems with the Singer Simple?
I’m visiting my daughter in AZ, and she has just purchased a Singer Simple sewing machine from Walmart. The preset upper tension is set at 4. The problem is that the bottom tension appears to be too tight and there doesn’t seem to be any way to adjust it.

The result is that the bottom thread is too tight, and the upper thread too loose on the underside of the fabric. It was binding and catching the threads completely in the bobbin housing before I took it apart to make sure everything was assembled correctly.

I have adjusted the tension back and forth, and even at the maximum of 9, the stitching is still uneven.

I worked for years in alterations and have torn down and put back more machines than I can remember. I am totally out of ideas. Has anyone else had problems with the tension on this machine?

if you left the presser foot down when threading the upper thread this will cause this problem. Pull the top thread completely out from the tension dial – lift the presser foot and then rethread.

How does the Binding foot work for the Singer 99?

Question by fenredwing: How does the Binding foot work for the Singer 99?
I have recently been given a Singer 99K sewing machine along with a selection of feet. I have worked out that one is the binder foot, nd after playing about with it, can still not make it work. I was wondering if someone could either describe to me or point me to a site that will tell me how to ‘thread’ the fabric through the foot so that it will work.

I think, in fact, that i have two binder feet. One is small with just the part that looks like an icing piping nozzle. The other has this bit and also a longer piece which has metal prongs that point vertically upwards. Can anyone tell me what this is ? What is the difference between the two?

Most binders work the same.

Singer Knitting Machine! Please Help!?

Question by Mattie S: Singer Knitting Machine! Please Help!?
I have a pink Singer knitting machine and the instruction manual is gone. Is there anyway to get instructions on how to bind off and sew on. Please help!!

Best answer:

Answer by hairbender
You don’t need any manual for that. Binding off is very simple.. the same as you do it on manual needles. You can take your latch hook and just crochet off the stitches. Start at one edge, and hook through that stitch and pull the next one through it. And repeat, always pulling the next stitch through the one on the hook. That is about the simplest way to do it. There are others too.

And sewing on? Do you mean to sew your knitting together, or something else on the machine?

Answer by maJiCMan
Try a google or yahoo search with the manufacturer and model and words like “owners manual” or “instruction manual”. You might get lucky and find one online.

Good luck.

Singer Knitting Machine help

Question by k_lamore: Singer Knitting Machine help
I just bought a brand new Singer Knitting Machine. I used it just fine to make 2 scarves and while making the third my machine started binding up. Now the handle won’t turn at all, and the hooks pop up when the machine is turned over. When I bought it and was getting ready to try it out a woman I know came into the shop with her 2 boys, the older boy immediatly went to the machine and began cranking the handle real fast and hard. I didn’t say anything to him or his mother, I really wish I had but speaking up is very difficult for me because I think what ever I say will come out wrong and sound mean. Anyway I don’t know if the machine is just a cheap peice of crap or the kid messed it up by being to hard on it. I know that it is a toy, but regardless of whether or not it’s a toy it should not have broken after just a few uses. I’m trying to decide whether or not I should exchange it for a new one or just get my money back and look for a better brand. If I should get another brand what works best in your oppinion. Has anyone else had this problem with their Singer Knitting Machine?

- I am an avid knitter and I teach as well, I just wanted something I could use up my novelty yarn on that is quick and easy. I fell last week and I was odered not to knit by the doctor because I hurt both wrists and my left arm (I am left hand dominant), so I really need something to do – and I want to knit.
I do usually knit by hand, and as it says already I am unable to knit (by hand) because of a fall. I bought the machine to give me something to do without hurting myself more. I also got it so I can use up my novelty yarn, I am simply making a long tube. I can do very little knitting so I just do up ends in my own way, and I can a finished project without the extra strain.

I have a Singer Sewing machine. The one that we have constantly messes up, but it’s an easy fix.

I usually take everything out and set up it back again and double check my placement. If it still doesn’t work after that, I’d return it for a new one, but make sure it isn’t one a kid is messing with :)

Or you could try knitting by hand. my sister does it, it may get boring, so watch tv while you do it or listen to music.

Hope I helped!!
