Singer Knitting Machine help

I just bought a brand new Singer Knitting Machine. I used it just fine to make 2 scarves and while making the third my machine started binding up. Now the handle won’t turn at all, and the hooks pop up when the machine is turned over. When I bought it and was getting ready to try it out a woman I know came into the shop with her 2 boys, the older boy immediatly went to the machine and began cranking the handle real fast and hard. I didn’t say anything to him or his mother, I really wish I had but speaking up is very difficult for me because I think what ever I say will come out wrong and sound mean. Anyway I don’t know if the machine is just a cheap peice of crap or the kid messed it up by being to hard on it. I know that it is a toy, but regardless of whether or not it’s a toy it should not have broken after just a few uses. I’m trying to decide whether or not I should exchange it for a new one or just get my money back and look for a better brand. If I should get another brand what works best in your oppinion. Has anyone else had this problem with their Singer Knitting Machine?

- I am an avid knitter and I teach as well, I just wanted something I could use up my novelty yarn on that is quick and easy. I fell last week and I was odered not to knit by the doctor because I hurt both wrists and my left arm (I am left hand dominant), so I really need something to do – and I want to knit.
I do usually knit by hand, and as it says already I am unable to knit (by hand) because of a fall. I bought the machine to give me something to do without hurting myself more. I also got it so I can use up my novelty yarn, I am simply making a long tube. I can do very little knitting so I just do up ends in my own way, and I can a finished project without the extra strain.
