Where do large companies print their catalogs?

Question by Herbert: Where do large companies print their catalogs?
I work for a start up company. We currently have had someone who made up a powerpoint catalog. We are currently printing between 30-40 a month off a laser printer and binding them with a thermal binding machine. In the coming future we will need to print around 1000 catalogs (and maybe mail them). Mailing is a different issue but the printing part is this issue. This is a wholesale catalog so i’m looking for something that could have thick pages, be matte and full bleed. I do not want to have to print these in house.

I’ve seen sites like U-Print but we are looking for something a little different something local in new york area. Even if you do not know one what are these places called?
plan on printing 1k catalogs

Um, they’re called printers. You can find a list in the yellow pages, yellowpages.com or do a quick Yahoo search (printers + NYC) for a list. Call to get estimates of pricing and pick one that you can get to easily to check proofs, etc.
