Q&A: My Xbox is Officially Broken – Dumb Laser.?

I don’t know really what to say. I’ve had it since Gears of War had first came out. It was my baby. I had all the games in the world for it, too. And now this happens. I can sell some of my games – for what, 5 bucks each? I have a Call of Duty 5 game that’s still in the plastic wrapping from Christmas, that I’d only be able to get 25 bucks for at Gamestop.
It was working all up until last night, I’m still dumbstruck. Was just playing Fable 2 and it was all fine. It had always made loud noises when it played that game, even months ago when it came out.
Every time I put in a disk – I’ll go to “My Xbox” where I click to play the game. It’ll say “Open Tray” as if it hasn’t scanned that there’s a disk in there. I’ll open it up, and close it again with the game in. It’ll say “Reading” for about 8 seconds and then go back to “Open Tray” like it doesn’t even know the game’s in there. It has done this for every one of my games, and my DVDs, most of which I’ve played at least once within the last week.
I completely disassembled it using instructions from google, using a pair of jewelry pliers with very thin clips to push in the little folds and whatnot that held the machine together. I split my thumb open as the faceplate came off. I opened up the compartment where the CD goes in, and wiped the lense/laser/whateveryoucallit with a Q-tip and some Rubbing alcohol. After putting it back together, it still doesn’t work.
I don’t know what to do. I only have a few games, half of which are classics that would only sell at Gamestop for 5 bucks. Out of all of them, only one is interested in any of my games. I have 65 bucks on an EBX/Gamestop card, and I need 200 for a new one. I don’t want a used one because I’d much prefer to start over – perhaps it wouldn’t make the loud sound while playing games like Fable and Dead Space (Which would be an absolute godsend.)
What should I do guys? Is there anything else I might be able to do to fix it? I don’t have a Multimeter, so I can’t do the Pot Tweak/trick. I’ve already tried cleaning the laser, I’ve dusted everything off. Everything about it works fine, I can even play Demos like Halo Wars and everything. The only problem is that it doesn’t read the disk. I bought it around the time Gears of War 1 came out, so it’s fairly old. Guess this was bound to happen some time.
Games I’m willing to sell:
Oblivion
GTA 4
Left 4 Dead
Call of Duty 5
Games I’m not:
Halo 3
Gears of War 2
Fable 2
Guitar Hero World Tour
What are my options, gentlemen. Left 4 Dead and Call of Duty 5 would sell for about 25 bucks each at Gamestop, if that makes any difference.
Thanks for the replies, if there are any.

Try this site:
sellvideogames.com
I added all the games you’re willing to sell in the cart and if you have the box and instructions for each, you can sell them for .72.
You can also try to replace the laser in the dvd drive if you feel up to it. Here is a replacement laser:

I’m sure you can find a better deal if you look online though.
Here is a tutorial on taking apart the dvd drive:

You will just need to put in the new laser instead of the old laser (you should be able to figure that out haha)
Good luck with everything!
P.S. You could also sell your 360 on ebay for a good price….just say everything works but it wont read games. People that repair 360’s and resell them will pay a lot for that probably. This + selling your games should help you buy a new system.
