Can someone explain ISC BIND..?

Question by excalibur1502: Can someone explain ISC BIND..?
This is my understanding:

The BIND DNS server is used on the vast majority of name serving machines on the Internet, providing a robust and stable architecture on top of which an organization’s naming architecture can be built.

But in layman’s terms?

Best answer:

Answer by PAULSC
ISC BIND = Internet Software Consortium’s Berkeley Internet Domain Daemon

BIND is a simple UNIX (originally, now ported to many other platforms) daemon which can perform lookups in a simple database to either a) provide the Internet Protocol numerical address of a named host, or b) do a reverse lookup, wherein the IP address is known, and the host name(s) at that address are retrieved. This service is called Domain Name Service (DNS), and has specifically been a feature of Internet operation since the early days of the DARPAnet, but it is an analogous function to that previously provided in other network architectures, such as IPX and NetBIOS. The advantage of DNS in networks is that people seem to be much better at remembering host names, than they are at remembering numerical addresses, so that providing a nearly automatic mechanism for resolving host names to numerical addresses provides easy navigation of the Internet for human beings. It also provides a means of automatically announcing the presence of new hosts on the network to interested parties, and of changing the addresses of current hosts, as the topology of the network changes, or as hosts are moved, physically or logically, within the network.

BIND has the further advantage of being both hierarchal, and essentially decentralized, in that while a small number of “root” server machines are set up as the small end of the authoritative name space tree, they can quickly influence the contents of a nearly infinite number of subordinate BIND servers, by a process of intelligent caching of database records by subordinate servers, according to scope of authority and time-to-live information contained in the database records themselves. This means that the work of looking up and resolving addresses and domain names can be efficiently shared by thousands of machines running BIND, and that decentralization of the DNS is achieved, thus promoting efficient, robust operation of the Internet, as a whole.

Best way to bind my book??? Please Help!?

Question by I Can’t Be Normal: Best way to bind my book??? Please Help!?
OK I’m trying to make and sell a type of book where the pages are laminated and are bound on a wire comb type spiral. I also want a thin cardboard type of front and back cover that is also punched to have the wire comb spiral through it. Is there a machine that I can have at home that can punch and bind the covers and pages? The book will only have 5-10 laminated pages and the front and back cover.

Also, what are those cardboard covers wrapped in? I mean, when I see notebooks or other books that have this cardboard type cover, they are wrapped in a big sticker type thing that is printed on. Can I print on those at home to have a cover for my book?

I know these are really ignorant and stupid sounding questions, but I don’t know the terms for any of this stuff or how they are used. Any help would be MUCH appreciated! I’m totally lost. lol

I don’t know anything about book binding but you can watch these videos about book binding. That way you will probably find a way how to bind the book the way you want to. The link is – http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=&search_query=book+binding+&aq=f
Hope I helped somehow. Good luck! :)

Question by Little_Tiger: HOw to present and bind a collection of my stories and poems for christmas pressies?
I’m 14 and love writing

i’m putting together a collection of my works to give to friends and family for xmas

i can’t spend too much money on it as i need to make around 12 copies and am on a limited budget as my parents are paying!!

i was going to soak paper in tea and then handwrite it in black in and hen bind it with string but i think this would take too long.

My aunty has a machine that will bind with royal blue paperback covers, so i could decorate and contact those???

Best answer:

Answer by suck_it_nicholas
I think the royal blue paperback covers is a great idea, it contrasts well with the idea of poems.
Or you can do a few of the tea-soaked poems and a few of the royal blue? Just to make them a bit more unique?

What are common reasons for a table saw to bind?

Question by – -: What are common reasons for a table saw to bind?
There’s no wood.
The machine is well oiled.
The motor casing doesn’t feel hot.
The motor tries to work when the switch is turned on, but the blade doesn’t move.
Just stopped during light use.
The blade is not caught on the table.
With the saw unplugged can you move the blade?
No

Direct drive or belt driven?
Direct drive

Does the motor have a start capacitor?
Not likely. There is very little underneath the unit, except the motor. The reset switch has a very small cover.

With the saw unplugged can you move the blade? …..Direct drive or belt driven?
Does the motor have a start capacitor?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If it is direct drive and the blade won’t move …my best guess is the motor bearing (s) have seized.
Not extremely common since these most likely are sealed bearings, but I can’t think of any other cause with these symptoms.
You can have the bearings replaces, but I don’t know how cost effective it would be.
You could do it yourself if you have a service manual with a parts list for the replacement bearings….. a gear or bearing puller and a way to press or hammer them on. If you do hammer them on you’ll need a pipe {pvc, copper, or metal} that has a inside diameter slightly larger than the motor shaft.
Sorry…… I know you were hoping for a simple solution.
What do you think? Answer below!
