A person is playing a slot machine. He makes the comment “I have been playing this damn thing for over three hours and haven’t won yet! I will keep playing because I am bound to hit soon!” What’s wrong with what he said? Explain your answer using independent events and probability.

Best answer:

Answer by sandynlily
each individual spin of the reels is an event with outcomes of fixed odds, every time he experiences a losing event, the losing event is not removed from the pool of events of which the random events occur from and the odds of winning and losing remain the same pull after pull regardless of how many times he spins and loses. Assuming that the odds of the slot mahcine are set against him, it would not be in his better interest to continue playing the machine, as the odds of him winning have not changes at all and he is still expecting to lose.

Lesson be learned, this happens all of the time in casinos, do not chase your losses.

Answer by Edward
Waaaay too many cards. Your deck MUST be between 40 and 60 cards.

You have no central strategy, no consistency, and well, it’s just a bunch of random monsters thrown in together.

Monsters: 19
2 Caius the Shadow Monarch
2 Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer
2 Blue Thunder T-45
1 D.D. Assailant
2 Banisher of the Radiance
1 D.D. Warrior Lady
1 Snipe Hunter
2 Green Gadget
2 Red Gadget
2 Yellow Gadget
1 Neo-Spacian Grand Mole
1 Spirit Reaper

Spells: 14
2 Lightning Vortex
2 Soul Taker
1 Heavy Storm
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Monster Reborn
1 Brain Control
2 Enemy Controller
2 Creature Swap
2 Shrink

Traps: 9
2 Compulsory Evacuation Device
2 Bottomless Trap Hole
2 Sakuretsu Armor
1 Dust Tornado
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Karma Cut

Total: 42 cards

Gadgets are the way to go for people wanting to get into the tournament scene.

All these cards can be found in struture decks, safe for Grand Mole, Blue Thunder and Monster Reborn, but they are rare, commons respectively.

Consistent, effective, and most importantly, cheap.

Question by Prewett: 6′7″ 170lbs. Real tall, Real Skinny, MARINE BOOT CAMP IN 6 MONTHS…. Any Marines got some advice?
I don’t know how many times I hear it… “Do you play basketball?” “Your a tall glass of water son.” “String Bean.” etc…

I scored 4 points from a perfect score on the ASVAP, and I go to MEPS in about a month. I have been running in the morning before work (I get up a 4 a.m. for that). I do push-ups when I get bored and before and after I run as well. I also do my sit-ups until my stomach burns. I am used to getting exhausted at my marital arts classes, my shirfu is a Vietnam Vet and loves to pick on me, slams me, demonstrates full force on me, runs me, drills me, breaks me down. I got my motivation to join the Marines because of him. With all that being said, I am 19, 6′7″, and just barely over the minimum weight limit. I can’t seem to put on the pounds though… I guess part of that comes from the fact that me and my family are broke as shit and I can’t eat all that I need to. It’s hard to gain weight and recharge your muscles on rice beans and a little bit of chicken once, maybe twice a day. I work all day and go to school from my scholarships at night, sleep eat, repeat. Everyday. I feel like I am already on a military schedule as it is, but I know for a fact that I will get my ass handed to me on a platter in Marine boot camp. I just want to be prepared… so could a few Marines give me an example of a good work out regiment I could do before I go?

I have no support from my family to go into the Marines. My father is constantly trying to talk me out of it, saying I am throwing my life away, that I am willingly signing myself to a meat machine that is the Marine Core. My grandmother disapproves and just frowns and gets sad when it is brought up. My mother is understanding but she doesn’t want me to sign up and led along only to be stuck with an MOS I don’t want and stuck in a binding contract. I feel like I am looking at bleak opportunities here, and I want to get out, go places, become a Marine, and prepare for my future. But I have doubts on whether or not I am fit enough or cut out for it, with no support it makes it twice as hard.

I need some help from former marines, active duty, etc… Help me out

Best answer:

Answer by Bowen
In addition to running and doing sit-ups, start doing a lot of pull-ups as well. You’ll need to be good at all three to get a good score on your PFT’s.

Ignore the nay-sayers around you. Joining the Marine Corps was one of the best decisions I ever made, and I loved my time in the Corps. As far as being cut out for it is concerned, it sounds to me as if you already have the heart and desire necessary. I’m sure you’ll do well.

Question by Mackenzie R: Parakeet Breeding Question!?
I have researched it and understand egg-binding, hand-feeding, and the rest of that stuff. I just got a mating buddy for Angel that’s a year old, and he mounts her from behind on her tail, then puts his leg on her as if he’s kicking her. She lets Angel get close, then kicks him off. Will she give in and let Angel mate her? I really need to know. I’m not treating her as a breeding machine, my friends’ parents’ say that they can have one if they do have babies, and they understand how to take care of them, so I have homes for them. Also, I’m only going to breed them once, maybe (which is most likely a no) twice. The female I named Sunbeam, is tamed, loves her head being scratched and everything. Will Sunbeam let Angel mate her? I understand the breeding and raising the chicks. So will she?

Best answer:

Answer by furious_strength
Sorry to tell you hon, but you really shouldn’t be breeding her. Breeding any animal requires a very specific process including genetic testing. Did you know there are hereditary diseases that Parakeets pass to each other? And unless you test both animals for these diseases the chances of the disease passing on to the babies sky rockets? The only reason any animal should be breed is to ‘improve’ the breed of animal.

It’s good you have homes for them, but that’s not the issue. There are many birds in rescue shelters that are put to death because there aren’t any homes available. So improperly breeding your animal is taking away those lives. If your friends family wants a bird, they should go and adopt one.

It’s also very possible that your bird wont mate. A lot birds wont breed in captivity and she can be stressed by the presence of another male. Stress in birds can be very dangerous and cause harmful behavioral problems such as feather plucking. Your female could even die.

Not to mention are you really prepared for this responsibility? If something goes wrong, could you handfeed the chicks? This may include handfeeding them every hour around the clock…. Do you know the pros and cons to not only breeding, but handraising, too? Anything from the parents neglecting the chicks, mutilating them, overfeeding them, to burned crop, sour crop, bacterial/fungal infections, slow crop, etc? Do you have the necessary supplies to handfeed in case of such an emergency? Do you have any avian vets or breeders who could help you out in case something goes wrong? Would you have the money for an emergency vet visit? Sorry, I don’t think you are as educated as you you are. From the sound of it, you don’t even have a breeding box.

There is a whole lot more that goes into breeding that just sticking two animals together and having homes selected for the babies. Unless you have a passion for bred husbandry and wanting to improve it, you really should not be breeding them and can in fact do quite a lot of harm. Unless you are prepared to keep both your male and female as pets if they don’t make babies, you should re-home the male. Why not to your friend who wants one? If your female shows to much stress from him repeatedly trying to breed, you should move him to another cage.

Question by Aspira: Do you know who Elizabeth Báthory was? Poem about her and her doings, can you c/c please?
The Blood Stained Purification-I’m not a historical genius so this is based on what I know about her, like tale of how this could have happened.

The Bathory family were an aristocratic generation
holding high influence in the large Hungary nation.
A dark red blotch stained their lustrous family tree,
something evil produced, 17th of August, 1560.

A sweet little child living in the stately Ecsed estate,
with passion for studies, she had a bright looking fate.
Whoever could predict a girl with such studious sense
would ever have the heart to do such brutal offense.

As the countess grew into an brilliant, intelligent woman,
her self consciousness blossomed and she began
to look into the signs of age present on her face.
Her plan formed, it would keep her young but kill her grace.

The Bathory family always remained militant and stalwart,
sneaking into the armory, she grabbed blades, deadly sort.
Unseen and away she crept as her plan resumed to work,
as she realises the simplicity she smiled a sinister smirk.

Always led on by tales of far fetched myth and legend,
she knew that girls would meet their untimely end.
In her hand a blade snipping the jugular veins,
her first victim now hung in the tower in binding chains.

The bath tub was filled with spilt blood to the brim,
extracted from a process hair raisingly grim.
the tub’s rim was telltale red from the scarlet pour,
but no one was to notice with her husband in the war.

As the years progressed the country faced more death,
but no one knew who was stealing their last breath.
Elizabeth Bathory retained her youthful sheen,
and no one knew how she was a killing machine.

She looked about 30 but her age was much higher,
rumours started to spread, was she a vampire?
1610 saw a properly held criminal investigation
from outspoken fears and rising frustration.

After the quickly held trial and rushed decision
she was put under house arrest with no true precision.
In a huge castle she had many-a-room,
but maybe through karma, she would meet her doom.

In her area she was found dead, youngish at fifty four,
when buried in the local cemetary there was much uproar.
“A murderer in our graveyard, what a total disgrace!”,
so finally she was laid to rest, in her first living place.

This is my third long poem in a row, next will probably be something short and sweet, but I guess it depends!
I like youngish because you wouldn’t say a 54 year old woman is youthful for her death, you could say she was youngish for her death, but you’re right there are definitely better ways of expressing it.
King of Agartha-Of course you may! I’m flattered, next time just do it don’t ask permission, I don’t have many rules regarding my poetry, just don’t publish it.
I have a sense of enticement? I really have no idea what i’d like to do but I might find out more about that!

Best answer:

Answer by Fight Fair! <33
Elizabeth Bathory is arguably one of the few female sex killers documented. She was extremely disturbed. I like the poem, it tells her story with a flare, the only thing I suggest is change the “youngish” to “youthful”

http://www.sierrasnowboard.com/2009-Vans-Hi-Standard-Womens-44344.asp
The women’s Hi-Standard is a great boot for the progressing beginner to intermediate riders who want a soft boot to make life easy on them selves when learning to ride the mountain powerfully and creatively. Also, it is a great boot for the advancing park riders too. This boot comes equipped with the New Trifit Asym-X thermal liner for increased heel-hold and reduced slippage. Show your true capability as a woman snowboarder with the Hi-Standard.

Vans says: See what happens when you put Hana Beaman and our team of designers in a room and shut the door, a boot is born, with insane styling and a feature set capable of taking your riding to the next level! The all new Trifit Asym-X thermal liner provides a snug and comfy heel fit while the internal web harness provides that additional support, keeping you safe and steady for a full day on the hill. Three distinct materializations and colorways round out one of the best-valued boots the snowboard market has to offer.

or

http://www.sierrasnowboard.com/2009-32-Prospect-43591.asp

Whether you are progressing on the mountain or through the park the Prospect will stick with you all the way. It has a soft to medium flex provided by the articulating cuff and boot design to create smooth transitions when trying new tricks. Not only is this boot great for progressing tendencies, but it is also great for the more experienced riders who just want a more forgiving flex to benefit their type of riding. The Prospect is a great boot for the all-mountain freestyle rider.

32 says: Lightweight and versatile, the Prospect is perfect for advancing riders who are trying to stomp new tricks and seasoned veterans who need a more forgiving flex.

or

http://www.sierrasnowboard.com/2009-Burton-Supreme-Womens-40574.asp
The name says it all. The Burton Supreme is the most advanced boot in womens snowboarding today. Pre-wired Imprint 4 liner, upgraded Speed Zone lacing system, and the Plush Cuff 2.0 contribute to this boots growing success and popularity among female pros. We recommend the Supreme for the gnarly chick that needs a killer boot that can do it all.

Burton Says: Step into the ultimate riding machine. Featuring sciences greatest secrets mixed with a little Burton magic, the Supreme gives gold-medal prodigies like Hannah Teter and Kelly Clark the power to push the envelope of what’s possible on a snowboard. Every single stitch and detail of the Supreme has been examined to provide slipper-like comfort with shit-kicking performance. Heat-ready with the new Therm-ic pre-wired liner, the Supreme truly is the hottest boot to hit snow.

or (last 1)

http://www.sierrasnowboard.com/Forum-Baseline-Womens-42227.asp
The new stylish, Chuck Taylor designed, Forum women’s Baseline boot is here to step up and progress the beginner to intermediate rider skills. The low volume sole increases the boot-to-board feel for a more-lively smooth ride. Also, the internal liner is moldable for that nice custom fit. Stay comfortable and stylish all day on the mountain when rippin the new Baseline. We recommend this as an all-mountain boot for the progressing women riders.

Forum says:
The all-new Baseline is a modern classic. The user-friendly model combines classic court-shoe styling with the rugged properties of an all-terrain snowboard boot. The all-new vulcanized outsole provides a stable, low point of contact with the binding for incredible board feel. A Silver Link internal cuff sets the heel into the cushy heel pocket of a Level 1 liner, providing toasty, warm, all-day support. With an overall mid-soft flex that is perfect for terrain park antics and powder slashing, the Baseline makes having fun easy, anywhere you ride.

Best answer:

Answer by guh-new-bie
i answered your other one but they would all be good boots if you get them in the right size. choose which ever matches the best. I don’t think you should have to spend 0 on burton boots (burton is often overpriced for the same things)

Answer by Nick
if it improves quality of life then it is profitable, look to the eyes of someone from 5AD what would they see
or even someone from the victorian age. but of course, people thought that it would be like that now, you are assuming people and future generations are ignrant and inconsiderate.

the mainstream pop. would have little to do with (consciously) this technology but it sounds scientifically fabulous the way you describe it!

but i think if it continues there will be a struggle for jobs, robots are much more efficient, maybe there will be no currency, maybe we’ll all contribute together to help society develop…

Question by Mackenzie R: Parakeet Breeding Question?

Answer by Link H
only Sunbeam knows the answer to your question. lol.

However, be sure that you are providing 12 or more hours of good light daily. Use a full-spectrum (UVA) lamp if you can get one. Provide a nesting site with box and some nesting materials, then maybe she will get in the mood.

Our courting budgies chewed a hole in the wall above the window valence, to make a nest. grrr
