Is anybody knowledgeable on dishwashers?
Question by TERRY K: Is anybody knowledgeable on dishwashers?
The lower spraybar on my Maytag dishwasher doesn’t rotate. It remains in pretty much one position during the entire wash cycle. There isn’t anything binding against it and it is free to rotate; I can spin it by hand. I really can’t determine how much water is actually coming out of it. The machine is about ten years old. Any ideas from the appliance gurus out there?

When this happened to me, it was turning by hand; but not freely enought to spin properly.
It’s a little messy, but you should be able to manipulate the door catch so that the washer can turn on with the door ajar. Doing so will allow you to see how much water comes out of the spraybar.
Otherwise, if you haven’t yet, make sure there’s no trash in the intake on the bottom of the washer that might be restricting pump flow.

It sounds like you have mineral deposits blocking water flow. Buy a dishwasher cleaner sold in the same area as the detergent and rinse agents. Follow the directions and it should open things up to make it work again. Check the temperature of the water IN the dishwasher after running the hot water in the sink until it gets the hottest it can. You should have 120 to 140 degrees in the dishwasher for it to wash properly and help prevent the buildup of soap and mineral deposits.. If you are not getting those temperatures you will need to turn the hot water temperature up at the water heater.
