you’re sewing a child’s nylon jacket. You notice the fabric frays easily. Which would be your best buttonhole option?

Having been a seamstress for longer that I will admit too….and having worked with nylon as well….I would use the machine stitched buttonhole, however I would reinforce the underside with the iron on tape first if that is possible for you. Also, if you actually use a lighter and flame and burn the fraying it will prevent further fraying. This takes a bit of practice with scraps first and just heat it until it just melts or it can desinegrate in front of your eyes…I used snaps to close nylon, as well as zippers usually.
You can also buy a product called FrayCheck at Wal-Mart or Joann Fabric. I would machine button hole it then apply the Fray Check.
